Kyle’s May Challenge

May 19, 2008

As many of you know, the Pink of Perfection May Challenge sounds a lot like my France Telecom March Challenge . . . except the latter was involuntary and resulted in a 6 week media and telecommunication blackout. While it did give me a chance to catch up on my reading, the France Telecom challenge is not something I’m eager to repeat.  A little too isolating for me.

So I’ve crafted a new challenge a little more suited to my time wasting habits. I’m calling it:

The Internet. En francais. (Anne’s May Challenge)

May 19, 2008

Aujourd’hui begins my version of the Pink of Perfection media detox. I thought long and hard about what I wanted to give up–blogs, facebook, the little tv I actually watch–before coming to my conclusion. I just bought my return ticket to the United States (I’ll be in Seattle July 10th in case anyone wants to welcome me back with a much missed chai latte), and my remaining time in France is starting to tick away. There’s still so much I want to see here, and still plenty of room for my French to improve. Instead of wasting time mindlessly clicking through blogs, I’ve decided to make the most of my stay and use only French media for the week.

. . . And We’re Back

April 26, 2008

After a little sabbatical, Anne and I are returning to our blogging ways.

I’ve joined Anne in France. Despite the death of my laptop and the back breaking schedule of Anne’s French work week (nearly 30 hours!), our irrepressible desire to blog has reemerged. We’ve got a few more months here before we move back to the US (post-college life 2.0) and it’s time to do some typing.

Or maybe we’ll just post links to websites we like.  But at any rate, more posts coming soon.

Recommended Links

April 11, 2007

There are a lot of great websites on the internet for navigating the post-college, pre-grown up world with thrift and finesse, so I thought it was time to share some of my favorites.

The Paupered Chef is full of recipes and suggestions for good, cheap eating. Honestly, a lot of the recipes look a little too complicated for my typical after work meal, but maybe you’ll be inspired. This is a fun entry about halal food carts, a New York City favorite.

Pink of Perfection has food, style, and craft advice for good living on the cheap from Brooklyn resident Sarah. The video segments are great–check out this one on making our own yoga mat bag.

Looking for free events happening in the big apple? Free NYC is a compilation of events you should check out. There’s a calendar and even a place to submit your own events. Watch for news on free concerts–they’ll tell you about all those cool ones happening at the Apple Store lately.

Cheap Eats is a blog I’ve just started exploring. The author has a helpful “leftovers for lunch” category, in addition to reviewing new grocery store products, and reporting on fast food deals. If you’re curious about that frozen pot pie you’ve seen in the Associated’s freezer case, but not quite sure you want to commit, look here for a review before buying.

Please comment if you have any other good site suggestions!

Worst Thing To Be Arrested For. Ever.

March 20, 2007

Check out this story From my brother’s blog. It’s the one of worst best arrest stories I’ve ever heard. If any one out there ever gets arrested for imitating a stunt from Jackass, please, please, please use your one phone call to call me. I might not be that helpful, but seriously, that’s got to be the funniest phone call ever. And I don’t want to miss that.

My brother is also a regular boxing reporter for a major wrestling/mixed martial arts website. So if you’re into that sort of thing, keep an eye on his page.

Brain Terrain

March 6, 2007

I wanted to let you all know about New York Brain Terrain, my friend and former coworker’s blog. Michelle does an amazing job of keeping up a “litscape” calendar on the page. It details several interesting literary and cultural events going on in New York City for each day. Most are free. There are also book reviews, interviews with writers and editors, and information about events. I write there sometimes as well.
Check it out!
